Annual review design for QVSR.
Annual review design to aid and support a good cause.
Queen Victoria Seamen’s Rest (QVSR) is the Seamen’s Mission of the Methodist Church. They offer aid and support to current and ex-seafarers and ex-servicemen in need of accommodation. They have two specialist residential centres in London, and 2019 saw the completion of an ambitious modernisation programme at these sites.
The structural refits formed the centrepiece of the charity’s 2019 annual review. Keen to showcase the refurbishment, QVSR approached Toast for the project. This was the first time QVSR had used an external agency for their annual review design.
Annual review design process.
We’re an approachable bunch at Toast, but because QVSR were new to the process we put in extra effort to make the whole experience as easy as possible for our new client.
QVSR were keen to evolve their annual review design without losing the clarity and simplicity of previous years. Although QVSR were new to this, our experience meant we were able to help guide them through the design stages painlessly.
We developed a few visuals, one of which was a straightforward tidy-up of their existing look. A couple of the other options developed things a bit more. We introduced additional page elements to help break the annual review into clear sections and articles.
QVSR chose to use one of the more advanced visuals. We worked with them to develop this new look on a couple of sample spreads. We got great feedback on these annual review design ideas which we then used as the basis for completing the project.
Charts and forms.
There were a couple of additional factors to consider in the financial section. For one thing, we needed to make sure the look of the charts was in keeping with the rest of the revised annual review design.
In the 12 months covered by this annual review, QVSR received more donations than previous years. Good news for them, but it meant we needed to accommodate a lot of extra information within the page count.
We suggested a separate donation form, which had previously been integrated within the annual review. We created a sympathetic design for this additional form, and in the process freed up some additional space in the annual review itself.
Print management.
QVSR previously arranged printing their annual reviews themselves. But we are also happy to handle printing on our clients’ behalf, and we offered to do so in this case.
Our strong relationships with preferred print suppliers meant we were able to save QVSR some money. What’s more, we arranged a quicker than usual delivery so that the annual reviews were with QVSR in time for their Christmas carol service.
We can also create your annual report in a digital format, take a look at our digital brochure design site for more details: http://digitalbrochures.co.uk
