Magazine design for the Guild of Television Camera Professionals.
Toast has worked with the Guild of Television Camera Professionals (GTC) for over 10 years with magazine design for Zerb, their trade publication.
After 25 years of working on and editing Zerb, editor Alison Chapman is finally calling it a day; everyone at Toast would like to thank Alison not only for choosing Toast to create Zerb but also for the years of dedication, commitment and hard work that a publication of this size demands.
So thank you Alison, we hope you enjoy some extra time to do all those other jobs!
Zerb Issue 90.
This issue of Zerb focuses on a variety of subjects that include shooting comedy, helicopter and drone filming, shooting snooker and filming tiny creatures. This issue ran to 90 pages, including advertising.
The main feature article is titled ‘The black art of shooting comedy’, and is an exploration of the work of GTC member Martin Hawkins. He is the director of photography behind the look of much of Ricky Gervais’ recent work, including After Life, Extras, Derek and the mockumentary series Life’s Too Short.
Moving forward.
Zerb is unique in that it is both edited and largely written by camera operators, photographers and camera technology experts. Each issue has a guest editor from the GTC with the overall operation overseen by a managing editor for continuity. This system ensures that material in the magazine is predominantly ‘from the cameraman’s point of view’ and strives to be topical, objective and always of interest to those working professionally with cameras, with an entertaining mix of location reports, technical information and human stories related to the craft of camerawork.
Work has already begun on issue 91 and Toast look forward to working with the new Zerb Managing Editor Rob Emmanuel, who will bring some new ideas and insights to this well-respected magazine.
